SAN JOSE, Calif. —- Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL in goals. What else is new? Nikita Kucherov leads the league in both assists and points.
However, neither player’s name came up often when I asked a few of this year’s All-Stars who they thought is the best player in the league. Not surprisingly, the two players whose names did come up were Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby.
A compelling argument could be made for either, though Crosby might have furthered his credentials Saturday night by recording four goals and four assists to lead the Metropolitan Division to an All-Star Game victory at the SAP Center, where he won the Conn Smythe and the Stanley Cup three years ago.
Does that mean that the 31-year-old Crosby is still the best?
