Do you get the feeling new Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Justin Layne was hoping to be drafted by the Cleveland Browns? The former Michigan State star was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round on Friday night and just after putting on his Steelers hat he had to make a quick wardrobe adjustment and remove the Browns socks he was wearing.
Layne and his family are from Cleveland and were all big Browns fans. But even Layne’s dad has come to the dark side and converted to part of Steeler Nation. Steelers team reporter Teresa Varley reported Layne’s dad threw away all his Browns stuff and is all Steelers now that his son is on the team.
‘My dad threw away all his Browns stuff. He has his Steelers stuff on now. We are taking all of the Browns stuff down. I am now closing that chapter.’ – @_jlayne on his family being Browns fans, but no longer after being drafted by the @steelers

This is a fascinating series of events but the reality is most NFL players aren’t drafted by the team they root for. It doesn’t often come up but Layne made it a little too obvious where his fandom was before Pittsburgh drafted him. Let’s hope we don’t see those socks again any time soon.
