Shoppers are not bothering to collect items worth a total of £228 million a year that they purchased using click and collect.
One in seven shoppers said that they had failed to pick up a parcel, according to a survey by Barclaycard and Decathlon, the sportswear retailer. Shoppers are reimbursed by retailers if they do not collect their online orders after a period of time.
Retailers are keen for customers to buy online and pick up at a local outlet, because it reduces the need for a physical presence on the high street and for deliveries to homes. However, consumers are not bothered about picking up their items because they receive refunds, creating costs and a logistical burden for retailers.
