Meghan Markle’s secret theatre meeting: Details

The Duchess of Sussex has been hard at work giving back
to her new community and learning about the ways she can contribute in her
royal role – and she already has quite a few secret meetings under her belt!
From a meet-up with Michelle Obama to a surprise outing at Kings College London, Meghan hasn’t been slowing down in her pregnancy. It’s just been
revealed that this week she had a private meeting with Rufus Norris, the
director of the National Theatre.

Given the under-the-radar nature of the event, there
aren’t any photos, but royal reporter Omid Scobie took to Twitter to share the news. “No slowing
down for the holidays (yet). Duchess Meghan had a private meeting with
@NationalTheatre artistic director Rufus Norris Today. Since joining in 2015,
Norris has been determined to promote cultural diversity and inclusivity at the
playhouse: ‘Theatre is for everyone.’”

Well, it’s certainly no surprise why Meghan would want to
arrange this secret get-together! Her known love for the theatre and passion
for inclusivity meshes perfectly with Rufus’s own values, begging the exciting
question: could this be the perfect first patronage for the mom-to-be? The Queen, as Omid pointed out in later tweets, is already a patron of the National
Theatre, but given that she’s been passing down responsibilities to the younger
royals, this could be the perfect fit for Prince Harry’s wife.

Back in August, just two months before announcing their
pregnancy, the couple paid a visit to the Victoria Palace Theatre to see one of
their favourite musicals,
Prince Harry hosted on behalf of the Invictus Games – even
a little diddy
on stage! – and the two had a blast meeting
with cast members and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda.

During the show, Meghan was seated next to 38-year-old Lin-Manuel,
who shared the sweetest moment he witnessed with the newly minted royal – she
knew all the lyrics! The composer told
was pretty wild. It was pretty surreal to see that the Duchess knows the lyrics
a little better than I do! She was sitting next to me and mouthing along … I am
Hamilton again in Puerto Rico
in a few weeks and I really was like, oh man I’ve got to brush up on my lyrics.
So, it was a joy and they’re wonderful.”
