LinkedIn sent out incorrect and damaging information about some of its users to their contacts, according to complaints in a report from Ireland’s data regulator.
The website, where users create professional profiles and network, added a feature called Mentioned in the News, which emailed alerts to people’s connections if their name was mentioned in the media.
But the tool proceeded to link users to the wrong people if they shared the same name, according to the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC).
The DPC said in its annual report that a networking site, understood to be LinkedIn, did not resolve the complaints from two users “to their satisfaction”.
