THE stunning ex-girlfriend who inspired Lewis Capaldi’s No1 smash single Someone You Loved can today be revealed as former Britain’s Got Talent contestant Paige Turley.
The pop sensation, 23, fell “head over heels” for fellow singer Paige, 22, after the pair hooked up at college in Motherwell.
He penned the heartbreaking track following their split.
A source said tonight: “Lewis was gutted. He really loved her.”
Pals have claimed Lewis channelled the heartache from his love split with Paige to become a global singing superstar.
We can reveal the Scot — who previously told how he penned his hits after a mystery ex he “loved” jilted him — dated former BGT hopeful Paige for around a year.
Friends said the chart-topping star fancied the stunning music student “like mad” and quickly fell for her at college in Motherwell around five years ago.
He was “gutted” when they broke up — and was inspired to pen his smash debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which includes current US No1 single Someone You Loved.
A source confirmed fellow singer Paige, who starred on the ITV talent contest aged 14, had influenced Lewis’s meteoric chart success.
They said: “She’s the girl. The song and his album is clearly inspired by love and he loved her — he really did.
“Paige dated Lewis while they were both at college from around 2014 to 2016. They were on and off and together just over a year. It’s funny that his songs now mean so much to so many. But the real story behind it is boy meets girl.
“She must be thrilled she helped inspire such beautiful music.”
Another added: “Paige and Lewis were at first glance an unlikely pairing but they were passionate about singing and had a real respect for one another musically.
“They had a lot in common and Lewis fell head over heels for Paige. The two would often be seen attending events together.
“They had an on-off relationship. Paige’s friends all know the truth.”
The pair are understood to have stayed pals for around a year.
Lewis, from Whitburn, West Lothian, has remained tightlipped about his former love’s identity. He previously said of his heartbreak: “I met a lady. She was very nice. I loved her. I loved the look of her and I loved how she spoke.
“We dated for a year and a half then she left me. Then I wrote an album about it and I still think about it every day.”
The pair once appeared on the bill together for a T in the Clachan gig in a Whitburn pub.
Talented blonde Paige, now 22, also performed in a pop band called G-Side.
And the singer had her own taste of fame when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2012.
The then 14-year-old schoolgirl wowed judges including Simon Cowell with her performance of Bon Iver’s Skinny Love. A source added: “Both Paige and Lewis are really talented.
“She’s a great singer in her own right. She has impressed Simon Cowell on BGT and played at Glasgow’s Hydro.
“She’s always gigging. Lewis’s people should snap her up and put her on the same bill.”
He said: “There were a couple of bereavements in my family and I wanted to write a song that could be applicable to both a relationship ending and a bereavement. I wanted to write a song about loss and the feeling of losing someone that wasn’t necessarily specific to a relationship.”
We told this week how Lewis joked he would celebrate rocketing to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 by getting surgery to enlarge his willy.
The down-to-earth pop sensation — who painted his face with the American flag — told fans he’d be transformed by going under the knife.
He declared: “Tell Hollywood there’s a shagger on the way.”
Poking fun at the Californian cosmetic surgery hotspot, Lewis said on Instagram: “If you think I’m not going to move to LA after this. I’m gonna lose a bit of weight and get my teeth done and elongate my c***.
“I’m going to get c*** surgery. I’m gonna get my butt, my a*** cheeks done.
“I’m gonna look a new man.”
An industry source hailed his rise to the top.
They said: “He’s hugely bankable. He’s got a great voice, writes great songs yet he’s also the sort of guy you would love to have a pint with down the pub.”
Lewis’s spokesman and Paige both declined to comment when approached by The Scottish Sun on Sunday last night.
