Here’s Everything We Know About ‘This Is Us’ Season 4 – The Cheat Sheet

As we suspected, the Season 3 finale of NBC’s hit drama This Is Us was a tear-jerker. After a vicious fight in the second to the last episode–leading up to the finale, it looks like Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) go the distance in their marriage. Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby’s (Chris Sullivan) son baby Jack comes home after being born prematurely, Kevin (Justin Hartley) has a kid of his own after ending things with Zoe (Melanie Liburd) and it looks like Rebecca (Mandy Moore) may have Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Rumor has it that This Is Us will end after Season 6. Therefore, NBC and creator, Dan Fogelman, have just three more seasons to bring the entire Pearson saga to a conclusion. We may not know how it’s all going to end, but here’s everything we know about Season 4 of This Is Us.

When will Season 4 of This Is Us premiere?

We’re not sure of the exact premiere date just yet, but we do know that Season 4 of This is Us is set to return in September 2019. Shortly after the Season 3 finale, Sterling K. Brown tweeted, “See you in September, peeps! Love all y’all! #ThisIsUs.” The writers might not have all of the scripts flushed out just yet, but Dan Fogelman already knows what we’re going to see in Season 4 of This Is Us. In 2017 he told Entertainment Weekly,

When you’re making a television show, you don’t even know that it’s going to get picked up, let alone become this giant thing that gets out of control, nor what people are going to respond to. So we had a plan from day one. I delivered the script for the pilot, and I also had a pitch for the next four seasons of the show.

These are the questions that need to be answered in Season 4 of This Is Us

Though we know Randall and Beth work through the issues in their marriage, and that Rebecca is “her” everyone is referring to, there are still several questions that need answers in Season 4 of This Is Us. Have Kate and Toby broken up? What’s the deal with that pin the tail on the donkey game? When did Jack’s brother Nicky reenter the Pearson stratosphere? When did Rebecca get sick? And finally, who on earth is the mother of Kevin’s son?

Fogleman gave People a very criptic response about what we can expect next. He said, “Fans are going to like the way some things go, they’re going to have questions and not like the way other things go.”

Season 4 is all about Rebecca

For those of us who adore Mandy Moore, you’ll be excited to know that Season 4 puts a spotlight on Rebecca. We know a little about Rebecca’s backstory. Her mother is uptight, borderline racist, and upper middle class. However, Moore explained that we will also see more of Rebecca’s early widowed years. She told People, “I think it’s a big pull. I think in other aspects of her life especially immediately post-Jack, the kids have just graduated from high school and potentially going off to college. It’s a big lonely road that she is sort of staring down the barrel of, but she always comes out on top.”

How will This Is Us end?

We know that This Is Us is set to end after Season 6 –so about 2022. Therefore we have three more seasons of Pearsons before we say goodbye forever. Fogelman told The Hollywood Reporter, “We never set out to make a television series that was going to last 18 seasons, and so we have a very direct plan. I have script pages I have written and I’m writing that really are deep, deep, deep into the future. The finale sets us up for a fourth season that kind of acts as a hinge or a midpoint for the rest of the series. There’s a lot coming.”
