A key scene from the film Bohemian Rhapsody that, to some, demonstrates that it isn’t at all well made has been doing the rounds on social media. What’s being viciously criticised isn’t the acting, or the script, or its director, but its editing. Editing is a thing you often don’t notice, the electricity in the machine. In the offending scene, though — which shows Freddie Mercury and his bandmates talking to their soon-to-be manager outside a pub — the cuts look like chasms, shifting our gaze to extraneous close-ups of the guitarist, bassist and drummer. This in a film about the ultimate flamboyant frontman.
