The behemoth movie Avengers: Endgame looks set to cross yet another milestone this weekend.
The superhero film is likely to cross the $2 billion mark in ticket sales on Saturday, becoming only the fifth film in history to do so.
Putting it on track to break even more records, the blockbuster movie reached a global box office of $1.915 billion by Friday, and looks set for another big weekend, reports Deadline.
Impressive: Avengers: Endgame is on track to cross the $2billion mark this weekend, making it one of only five movies to do so
It seems likely that it will become the fifth movie ever to earn over $2 billion at the worldwide box office, joining Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.048 billion), Titanic ($2.187 billion) and the highest grossing movie of all time worldwide, Avatar ($2.788 billion).
Endgame became the No. 5 highest grossing global movie of all time, having surpassed Jurassic World on Thursday.
It was breaking records from its opening weekend, as it became the first film in history to surpass the $1 billion mark in just its opening weekend – raking in an estimated $1.2 billion.
Finale: The star-studded movie is a direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, which opened a year ago, and wraps up the stories told in 21 films in the MCU starting with 2008’s Iron Man
Endgame: The film saw the conclusion of the decade-long Infinity Saga – which documented Thanos’ plot to wipe out half of the universe’s living creatures
The next films the assembled Avengers have in their sights to overtake on the worldwide chart are Infinity War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
They are likely to also topple them by the end of the weekend.
The Anthony and Joe Russo-helmed extravaganza is then looking to knock Avatar from the accolade of biggest grossing movie of all time; The James Cameron science fiction movie has earned a world-wide box-office of $2,787,965,087.
Social hit: In addition to setting records with its ticket sales, Endgame has now topped the charts on Twitter – with almost half the 50 million total sent in the past week alone
Record breaker: Avengers: Endgame has become the most tweeted about film of all time with more than 50 million posts since the start of the year (pictured Chris Hemsworth as Thor)
With an estimated budget of $356 million, Endgame is one of the most expensive films ever made and saw the conclusion of the decade-long Infinity Saga – which documented Thanos’ plot to wipe out half of the universe’s living creatures.
Endgame is the latter end of Marvel’s ‘Phase Three’, but the superhero giant shows no signs of slowing down just yet, with ‘Phase Four’ set to begin in 2020.
The fourth phase is set to include the long-awaited Black Widow solo film, and sequels for Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy.
