500 new jobs in Bolton as Lidl Logistics North plans pass – The Bolton News

UP to 500 jobs are set to be created as a supermarket’s plans for a new regional warehouse have been given then green light.

Lidl’s new distribution centre at Logistics North, which will occupy more than 17 hectares at the Over Hulton site, can now be built at the multi-million pound industrial hub.

This comes more than a year after the German giant was originally granted planning permission.

It has since revealed revised plans due to the requirements of the business “evolving”.

The approved unit has been moved to the West of the site, according to the latest application.

The plans prepared by WYG on behalf of Lidl UK state that the company is willing to negotiate an employment and skills action plan with the council.

It said: “Lidl will be recruiting for up to 500 jobs at the facility, and always endeavour to employ people from the local area.”

Logistics North, the largest live commercial development in the North West, is already home to major distribution centres for companies including Amazon.

The site, known as Cutacre, is a former shallow tunnel and opencast coal mine, where over one million tonnes of coal was extracted between 2006 and 2011 when operations ceased at the site.

In 2014, Harworth Estates were granted outline to develop a 102 hectares phased employment scheme.

Last year, six new warehouses were completed in the second phase.

Town hall planners approved the latest plans by Lidl last week.
